Join PFLAG CO Chapters at “Always a Boy”

The Neustadt JAAMM Festival and Ground Floor Theatre (GFT) announce casting for the Denver premiere of Always A Boy written by Jo Ivester and Jeremy Ivester and directed by Ground Floor Theatre artistic director Lisa Scheps. Always A Boy will run Oct. 9 – 25, 2026 at the Pluss Theatre at the Mizel Arts & Culture Center.

Inspired by the bestselling 2020 memoir Never a Girl, Always a Boy by award-winning author Jo Ivester, this work tells a family’s journey and a coming-out story with humor and warmth. Always A Boy follows Joshua and his mother, Rachel, as they prepare for a wedding and reflect on the years that transformed their family. As Joshua began his gender journey alongside his sister’s path to marriage, long-unspoken truths surfaced, challenging and strengthening their relationship. Honest, heartfelt, and deeply moving, Always A Boy explores identity, family, and acceptance. At its core, it is a powerful story of love, discovery, and growth, sharing the tough moments as well as the joyful ones with a story of acceptance in a family that always knew how to love but needed to learn how to accept.
