SOFFA

A group for the significant others, family, friends, and active allies of LGBTQIA+ loved ones.

In-Person
First Saturday each month

It's often said that when a loved one comes out, transitions, or embraces a more authentic expression of who they are, those closest to them often experience their own journey of growth and change. PFLAG Denver's SOFFA (Significant Others, Family, Friends, and Allies) group was originally created to support loved ones of transgender, nonbinary, and gender nonconforming individuals. Today, SOFFA welcomes anyone seeking support as they navigate a loved one's LGBTQIA+ journey.

Regardless of where you are on your allyship journey, our peer-led groups provide a brave space to learn, grow, and develop deeper capacities for empathy, understanding, and connection. Through one another's stories, we gain perspective, hold accountability, celebrate joys, and navigate challenges together. Participants discover coping strategies that foster personal growth and resilience, helping them better support their loved ones while also caring for themselves.

The collective wisdom, shared experiences, and sense of community found in SOFFA can help individuals navigate uncertainty, strengthen relationships, and find encouragement along the way. Whether your loved one identifies as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, nonbinary, asexual, intersex, or anywhere within the LGBTQIA+ community, you are welcome here.

Registration each month is strongly encouraged to help our facilitators prepare the space for that month's meeting. If you forget to register, that's okay—please come anyway. We'll have a chair ready for you!

"When my child transitioned, I knew I needed to support them but I didn't know what that should look like. PFLAG Denver's SOFFA group absorbed the burden of my uninformed questions when it otherwise would have been shouldered by my child. I learned, I grew, and I fast-tracked my Allyship. At the start, I thought this work was a gift to my child. But my journey has taught me that my work was also a gift to myself. I can't imagine not knowing my child in their fullest sense of self."
